Founded in 1880 as Lyallpur, the city is today the third-largest in the country and often referred to as the “Manchester of Pakistan” for its extensive textile industry. The Faisalabad district spans nearly 5,900 square kilometers, with the urban city region governed in part by the Faisalabad Development Authority. With a population in the multi-millions, the city is known for its thriving textile mills, fertile agricultural lands producing cotton, wheat, sugarcane and fruits, and strong educational institutions such as the University of Agriculture. Famous landmarks include the historic Clock Tower with its eight surrounding bazaars, Lyallpur Museum, Gatwala Wildlife Park, and a diverse cultural heritage that blends modern growth with traditional Punjabi identity.
